In April of 1994, Coastal Greenery, Inc. was established by Jeffrey Johns. Jeffrey, along with his first employee, borrowed a trailer and lawn mower and began work on his first property. Parking all the equipment at his home in the evenings, he worked in his tiny bedroom office until the wee hours of the night completing all the administrative work for the company. With Jeffrey’s extensive horticulture knowledge, his personality, his drive to see his community dressed in beautiful landscapes and his business knowledge, he was able to bring Coastal Greenery to where it is today!
At the start of Coastal Greenery, quality work and customer service were always the standard. The company motto was “Where Customer Service is Always in Bloom” and this motto along with the logo was placed on the side of every truck and trailer in the fleet. In the beginning, Coastal Greenery provided all aspects of landscaping; from maintenance to landscape installs, from irrigation systems to water gardens. After a few years of trying to provide “everything” in the landscaping industry, Jeffrey decided to do what Coastal Greenery did best and that was Landscape Maintenance. With a leap of faith, Jeffrey began to turn down new construction installs consisting of landscape and irrigation installations and focused on jobs that involved landscape maintenance. Coastal Greenery has been a leader in the community and landscaping profession for exactly this type of business decision. So from 1999 until today Coastal Greenery has been focused on Landscape Maintenance and more recently taken the focus even further to concentrating on Commercial Landscape Maintenance.
Coastal Greenery has led the landscape community in our area in several other business facets such as; enclosed trailers, logoed trucks and trailers, company motto, company website, uniforms, and we could go on and on. Being a leader in the community has always been important to Jeffrey as well as building relationships. In 2009 the company’s image was given an overhaul to help set CGI apart from other landscape companies. The company logo changed as did the motto which now reads, “Relationships…..the Roots of Our Business.” Throughout the years Coastal Greenery and Jeffrey have been recognized in national magazines which included one issue with Jeffrey on the cover of Lawn & Landscape Magazine. Jeffrey has had the opportunity to speak at key landscape events throughout the United States and has written articles for The Brunswick News and national magazines. Coastal Greenery received the first ever “Small Business of the Year, 2013” award from the local Chamber of Commerce which was a huge honor because this was an award chosen by local business owners. Coastal Greenery also has won numerous safety awards through OSHA and other organizations. We take pride in our company’s strong history and look forward to continuing to follow our vision into a prosperous future.
Our Culture & Values
From the first day Coastal Greenery opened the doors to today, the company culture and values are what steers the company in the right direction. The culture and values are not only spoken by all team members, they are put into action each and every day. Coastal Greenery has extended personal attention, unrivaled horticultural expertise and dependable service to valued Golden Isle clients since its conception. Jeffrey Johns, owner and president, has continually made quality workmanship—not mass marketing—his main focus. With quality being the core of the company, building relationships with clients and team members is certainly a close second in the company core values. As a result, Jeffrey’s “little company” has grown primarily through word of mouth, expanding to become one of the largest, most reputable landscape maintenance companies in Southeast Georgia. Coastal Greenery’s clients appreciate the firm’s high expectations, industry expertise, exemplary communication, and uncompromising integrity. The team’s knowledge of landscape material, native plants and grasses, the ever-changing climate, as well as their pro-active approach to landscapes keeps Coastal Greenery leading the landscape industry in the Golden Isles. In addition, Coastal Greenery’s carefully selected team of horticulture and management professionals share the mission, vision, and core values of the company. Under Jeffrey’s expert guidance, the Coastal Greenery team strives to preserve functional, aesthetic landscapes that ensure the beauty and value of your property, year-round.

Who We Are
Crystal Hollaway is the Finance Manager for Coastal Greenery. She came to Coastal Greenery in 2013 from the banking industry with a Bachelor of Banking and Finance degree from UGA (GO DAWGS!). Crystal handles the Financial components of the business while being a huge cheerleader for all team members. Crystal is self-motivated, intelligent and a self-teacher who wants to learn and understand as much as she can about the business. She can handle herself in any type of environment and has a natural ability for teaching others. Crystal looks at any issue in a way that it helps bring others to a clearer understanding of the situation. We are blessed to have her and are thankful she took that leap of faith in 2013.
Jodie Goodyear is the Office Manager at Coastal Greenery and has been with the company since October of 2015. Jodie is the voice you hear when you call the office and the face you see when you come to the office. When you are around Jodie, you will see that she never meets a stranger and she has a heart for serving others. She will greet you with a contagious smile and joyful attitude. Jodie is the document controller of the company as well as the support for all the teams at CGI. Jodie has a great way of looking at situations or projects in a different light therefore she contributes a lot of great ways to streamline processes, cut costs, and/or proceed with tasks. We are so grateful that she is a member of the Coastal Greenery Team.
Mike has been working in Landscape Heathcare for 20+ years. He came to Coastal Greenery in June 2015 bringing with him many years’ of knowledge and he is putting this knowledge to use as the Healthcare Group Leader. Mike and his team work diligently to battle the extremely uncontrollable environmental effects which results in your landscape. Mike enjoys walking a property and diagnosing any issues he may see. Chemicals, fertilizers, and fungicides are just a small part of the materials he uses to help your property look its best. So if you see him slowly walking your property staring at the turf, shrubs, or plants don’t be surprised, he is only doing his job.
Dan is a Client Relations Manager here at Coastal Greenery. He focuses on residential properties. Dan joined our team in April of 2014. He came to Georgia from Pottstown, Pennsylvania to get away from the cold weather and settle down near the beach. Dan has an Associate’s Degree in Horticulture and worked in a big landscape company right out of college. He enjoys working at Coastal Greenery because he gets to know his clients on a more personal level which is something the larger landscape company was missing. He enjoys talking and getting to know people as well as keeping landscapes looking their best so he fits his job description to a tee! Say hello to Dan when you see him, you will be glad you did.
David has been working with Coastal Greenery since 2007. David is the Maintenance Group Leader with 10+ crews that he manages every day. He is extremely knowledgeable in landscape maintenance, from the appropriate sized mower to use on the turf area to correct pruning techniques, David knows it all. David has worked in maintenance since he began working with Coastal Greenery and has been a key team player for all these years. His ease with the crews as well as his attention to detail are just 2 of a long list of great characteristics that he possesses. If you asked the production team members, whether under his supervision or not, who they look up to as a role model, 95% would say David Mandujano. We are grateful that David is a part of our team!
Don Locklin is the Irrigation/Landscape Group Leader for Coastal Greenery. Don comes to Coastal Greenery from the golf course side of landscaping and joined the team in 2012. Don missed the golf course environment so he went back for a short period of time only to rejoin our team in 2013. He has years of landscape experience and knowledge and is always contributing great techniques to improve and strengthen the company. Don has a servant’s heart which is a characteristic not often seen. He is a busy guy and if/when you run into Don, don’t plan on talking long because he will most likely be on his way to help someone.
Troy is the resident landscape architect at Coastal Greenery who graduated from The University of Georgia (GO DAWGS!) with a Bachelor in Landscape Architecture. Troy works to design new landscapes or enhancements for established landscapes. Whether he is designing an outdoor living space, designing a small space for optimal use or redesigning an unusable outdoor space, Troy is hands-on the entire process from start to finish. Troy has an outstanding capacity to work closely with clients from concept to fruition and due to this special touch, his clients always call again with more projects for him to tackle. Troy compliments the CGI team with his laid back personality and his ability to look at things differently which is a huge + for Coastal Greenery.
Jeffrey is the Owner/President of Coastal Greenery as well as the creator of the company back in 1994. Jeffrey has been working outdoors ever since he can remember so earning his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from UGA (GO DAWGS!) was a “no brainer.” Jeffrey, at one time or another, has worked in every position at CGI, with exception of mechanic and he is now managing the Sales Team as well as Production. Jeffrey enjoys the chance to develop relationships with clients and team members and enjoys the chance to problem solve any issues that may come up. On top of his other duties, Jeffrey manages the company as a whole. He is an exceptional teacher and mentor to many at CGI as well as in the community. Wearing many hats can be difficult but Jeffrey never backs away from a challenge and he enjoys every minute of it.
Misty has been working with Coastal Greenery since its conception in 1994. Misty is the wife of Jeffrey and is the Director of Administration. She has worked in all positions of the company’s administration department and has had a hand in developing this department to keep up with the demands of production. Whatever the need may be, she will jump at the opportunity to add her creative flair to any project. Misty is also responsible for communicating the company’s culture in the community and placing the company into the hands of potential clients. Telling others about Coastal Greenery comes easy for Misty due to the fact that she believes in the culture, mission, and vision of the company 100%.
When you come to the Coastal Greenery shop, you may be greeted by a very enthusiastic canine named Prince Leviticus. “Levi” takes his job seriously as he is the “greeter extraordinaire”. He enjoys swimming in the pond, playing catch, rolling in the grass (or dirt), attending the huddle meetings early every morning and loves seeing all the crews as they role in each afternoon. So when you stop by the shop, say hello to Levi. He won’t bite but he does accept treats!
